W.I.P 3d View
These three days, I have been busy with drawing the scenes for ‘When Love Happens’. I’m halfway through now so want to share with you all the cartoon faces that I have created.

I spend time making the features look like the couple based on their photographs and create a cartoon face template facing the front. Then, based on this main face, I’ll adjust the features, change the face shape, sometimes re-drawing, edit and re-draw the hairstyle to suit the different angles in the animation. I always have to refer to the main face side by side and try my best to make sure the features angles are correct so it looks like the character has turned its head. I also have to change the expression to match their feelings. And if the head turned, of course the body has to follow so I have to edit them also. Some of you might have read abt this as I’ve blogged about it before in a post for ‘Love Thermometer’.
If an animation always have the character facing front, it would look very ‘flat’ and 2d. I’m heavily influenced by Japanese animation, hence I don’t follow conventional 2d cartoon where the face always faces front but try to use cinematic angles.
As I have never taken an art course, all my learning is from watching animation, movies, tv shows. When I watch a show, I don’t only just enjoy the story but I’ll observe how the director cut the scenes, how the person appear on the screen, where they stand and why two people must stand that way. I’ll also observe their expressions carefully. Therefore, my clips have gotten much better than the past as I learned more and more.
Doing this way, I need more time because I have to produce so many looks of the couple all by hand, as compared to doing one or two views and re-use them for the entire clip. For simple story animation, I’ll try to re-use most of them and not do too much angles. But I don’t know why for this story, I’m doing so many. Probably I’m overdoing it again. However, the end result is so satisfying for me that I can’t resist doing the clips this way. I like to think of my projects as movies production, the characters are the actors and actresses, and not just ‘cartoons’ that serve to be cute. Next time when you look at my productions, try counting how many different looks the characters has or how many times I reuse them…hee.

Till now, I’m still often amazed by the amount of effort Catherine put into each of her works. She could have cut down her time and workload by half simply by putting lesser details on the characters’ faces/shading etc, or even just to re-use the faces she had already drawn, but she would not do it, simply for her love and passion of her works, and her desire to give the best product to her clients.
Sometimes I do feel upset when I heard about people not understanding the amount of time she needs to put into her works, and thinking that these animations she did were ‘magically’ created easily somehow.
As her hubby, despite seeing her so stressed out and overloaded and working through weekends and even late nights, I could only continue to support and take care of her.
Hi Catherine,
Thanks for your hard work. We really appreciate and liked your work. Now coming to the final touches, we believe that you will create the ideal animation that we are looking for.
However, please do take care of your health as well. Enjoy some time out with your hubby. We can see that he is very concern about you.
Hi Cat,
We very amazed by u! Without attending any course, u can draw their expression so well. Great work!
Indeed! I agree as what Shenna said, we do see Vincent care for u each time. Make me very touching. We do thank u alot for what u done for each of us. At same time we do concern for u too. When it time for rest then take a break. Spend some time on Vincent too. He a GREAT HUBBY! U make the right choice! =D
Hi gary, Shenna and Jen02,
Thanks for your concerns and encouragement.
No worries, we are still spending quality times together, and our marriage life is still as fulfilling as ever! ^^
Thanks Gary and Shenna, for appreciating! Though, I’m not sharing this to tell people I should be appreciated or I’m not appreciated, don’t be mistaken!
I shared because it will be interesting to show how it’s created.
Thanks Hubby dear for writing this for me secretly, it warms my heart.
It’s because I spend too much time with him last month liao, so have to rush this month. Time is always not enough for me, have to take care of so many things and not neglect each. >.<.
Thanks Jen for your comments. Hee, I’m glad of his support of me and understanding allowing me to carry on with Meowstudio. It’s because of my own love-filled relationship that I’m able and want to share with people around the world real love stories from couples. ‘Love is Great!’ It always makes me happy when I meet my clients as I see them very much in love.
Vincent, you are so sweet.
Cat, I wish I could see how you draw all these cool animations. It is possible that one day you can produce an animation movie that will be shown on TV or cinema.

Linda: I’m not as good to produce for tv. Still a novice in flash and learning compared to many experts.
Jen: Our story is sooo boring. dun think anyone wants to see. haha.
Mei Zhen: >.< no choice. If I never do so many tasks together, clients will chase after me!
Hi Cat, take your time. No rush for us our AD is in Nov07. As I always say, your work is great and both of us love it.
