Through working with her, we have become friends talking about her wedding and daily stuff.

Below is her account of her wedding in Indonesia which I found so interesting! Cultural Differences. No wonder she wants to go through it again…

Linda’s account for her wedding in Medan, Indonesia, Grand Angkasa International Hotel:

PERFORMANCES:
We had performance, so it is like a live show. There are 2 kinds of entertainments for wedding. Ask friends/ relatives to sing on stage, and give hong bao to them. Or hire performance groups. I hired a performance group to perform 6 shows. I also asked my relatives/friends/sister to sing. When relatives/friends/sisters sing, people will go to stage to give hong bao.

So when we hire performance groups, the program is like:
- When the reception about to start, they performed 1 show to keep guests sitting on their seats.
- Parents marched in
- There is a wedding procession. 8 models danced on stage, then they walked towards wedding couple and stand next to the red carpet.
- 1 couple danced a ballet on stage, the female dancer danced with the bridal bouquet, then she danced towards the bride & groom and give the bouquet to the bride.
- Wedding couple marched in and 8 models followed at the back
- Toast on stage

GETTING RELATIVES TO PERFORM:
I asked a friend, sister , ex teacher and my mom’s friend to sing. So I had to go to stage and gave them hong bao.

PERFORMANCE BY GROOM AND BRIDE:
Jon also performed with his guitar. He wanted to play the guitar while I sang, but I didn’t dare. So he played guitar and sang too. They were supposed to provide 2 mics with stands. 1 for the guitar and 1 for Jon, but they only found 1 stand. So I just stood there to hold the mic for Jon and collected hong bao. I thought I would be so nervous on stage, but the light was dim and there were some spotlight, so I couldn’t really see the guests, which was good. I wasn’t so nervous then.

DIM LIGHTS:
Just realised one thing, I don’t know why the light was dim during the dinner. It is usually bright in Singapore right? Maybe they make it dim so we can see the performance better.

ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY:
All of Jon’s relatives brought camera/ videocam on the reception and wedding day. It was quite obvious, as normally Indonesia people would not bring camera to a wedding. My friends even asked me if all of his relatives are photographers haha. But they were taken well too, I already saw the video taken by Jon’s uncle.

DIFFERENCES IN GREETING GUESTS:
Jon parents said in Singapore, wedding couples and family shake hands with guests when the dinner is over. But in Indonesia, we stand in entrance and shake hand with guests before they enter the ballroom.

LUCKY DRAWS:
There’s also lucky draws. Because if there’s no lucky draws, guests will go home by 9 pm. So 30 minutes before the dinner is over, 1/2 of the guests were already gone. Normally a lucky draw will keep the guests staying until the end of the dinner.

ABOUT ANIMATION:
People say the animation was really cute and the characters look like us. I love the poster. Those that saw our animation earlier said the poster was great.

    Hi everyone,

Chloe: It was tiring but memorable wedding.
Jen: My wedding is considered normal there. Grand wedding will be something like wedding on the beach in Bali.
    Mei Zhen: Thank you =)
