About…Marching In
Has been sometime since I update. I’m finishing the ‘Love Thermometer’ Project and going to start on the other two soon. I’m just left with some photos and the music input. This picture is the last scene in the project. With my limited art skill, I’m supposed to draw them on a bicycle. I hope it looks somewhat like it. ^_~
Well, I’ve been thinking about ‘Marching In’. It has always been a tradition to ‘march in’ to your wedding banquet where your guests would stand up, clap their hands to welcome you. I’ve been through it and being a shy individual, I didn’t particularly like it. It felt weird to me, with their eyes on me..ha. And also we have to pace our steps properly, not too fast and not too slow. In the middle of the dinner, we have to change to our dinner dress and march in yet again.
I’ve heard of brides thinking of unique ways to march in, instead of following the traditional way of being at their husband’s side. For my client, Jas, she and her hubby stood at side doors to the entrance and march in separately, meeting in the center. Of course, if your location only have one door, then it will not be possible.
Marching in with petals, confetti is also not advisable, I feel. I attended one dinner where guests were given flower petals and we are supposed to throw them at the groom and bride. However, some petals got stuck onto their hair or attire and blocked their vision as they walked by.They have to either keep the poise and risk standing on stage with the petals or keep clearing it off their body, which isn’t very elegant.
Another client played the marching song on a violin. As the bride walks in, he plays the tune to her. It was impressive since he had never learn violin and took it up a few weeks before their wedding with intense practice, just for that moment.
There’s also the headache of choosing songs for marching in. People are constantly asking around for nice love songs to march in to. Some choose classical music. For me, we used the song sung by The Carpenters- ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’. An old song released in 1970. We first heard of the song in our marriage preparation course and we love the lyrics so much.

What other ways of ‘marching in’ have you encounter? maybe you can share them with me.

Hi Cat,
I also trying to think of ways of not hving a common march in n march in songs.. Every dinner, the songs and the march in is so similar..
I once saw a bride march in herself n the groom met her half way….
I am also a shy person and i am now trying to overcome the fear of being the center of attraction and going on stage to do speech… hopefully can find some good ideas frm the pple here
I saw a march-in where the bride waited at the entrance. The groom was on the stage, marched alone to fetch the bride, singing a song dedicated to her. That was sweet…
I also hate being center of attention
But no choice, just experience it once in a lifetime hehe.
Hi Cat and all,
Well I guess most of the brides are anxious, nervous and everything…But I guess it is the once in a lifetime thingy that is nice and experience it…
I guess my friends and relatives are not that creative ya….most of them do not have new march in ideas…other than the one that enter from different doors and met at the centre, I have not seen any other special march in…
Guess I have to help my sis start thinking….hahaha
MeiQi, MeiZhen >> thanks for sharing. Yup, some people want to do it uniquely. For me, ha, I just want to get it over and done with so I rather just walk beside my hubby as I’m a bit phobic to walk alone. Holding him lends me some support too.. ^_~
Linda>> wow, that’s nice. To sing a song as he go and fetch her, so romantic! And he’s so daring to do it in front of so many people.
interestingly, I m very fan about this topic now. Shortlisted 3 songs for march in and 2 of them are chinese songs. I wonder if anyone uses chinese songs for march in before??
Thinking of using bubble guns to create bubbles for the march in. Dunno whether it will be nice or not. I agree with Cat that the petals and confetti do get in the way n it’s not very nice when the fotographer needs to take fotos.
Did thot of having hubby to sing the march in song cos he is a good singer but he will be so stressed to do that. He oso shy.. hahaha..
So Far, I haven’t heard of people using Chinese songs but well, there’s no harm in it as long as the song is emotional or romantic enough.
Bubble guns would be soap right. Wouldn’t it be worse if it lands on your hair or faces?
Wah, get him to sing if he’s good! then it will be really nice.
Hi Chloe,
I also never heard of anyone using Chinese songs. But I think that is a good idea.
I am thinking to get 2 small kids /ballerinas to walk in front of us with a basket of petals/ confetti and throw them on the floor.
My husband wants to play guitar and ask me to sing but it will be a big “NO” heh…because I am a bad singer and it takes a lot of confidence to sing in front of so many people
Hi Ladies,
Good morning!! I have heard my friends using chinese songs…”Forever love” and “Jia Gei Wo” from Alex Teo.
Depending on the guest I think, you got to make a choice.
Linda> nice to have kids walking in front of you. ^^ that is somewhat like a church procession too. Kids dressed up as ballerinas are so adorable. But it might also take some attention away from you cos people are focusing on her as she is in front, unless she’s really some distance.
Meizhen> ‘Jia Ge Wo’.. nice song? I must go and search for it. Alex Teo or To? Du De Wei?
Jia Ge Wo..Du De Wei…Heehee…ya….
???…??:???
Cat, I didn’t know that is a church procession. You are right, they might take attention away from us.
I read this from Singaporebride forum, this is so interesting.
“the MC say the bride and groom still at home. And show video clip that show them in casuals waking up late at home, then run and run towards the wedding venue. And video ended off with the couple’s hands on the banquet room door, and then the door opens, and they march in. ”
Just wondering about the Love Thermometer, why are they on a bicycle? Are they going to march in on a bicycle?
thanks MeiZhen. Linda, the story plot concerns a bicycle. The guy likes to cycle… hee. well, I dun want to reveal too much.
Cat,
ya, that’s a concern for me if the bubbles should land on us. One of my cousin did that long ago but her frens manual blow n the effect was not there as there weren’t enuff bubbles! I supposed it the bubbles are blown upwards, not towards us, it shdn’t be so bad, right?? Else, I will do without the bubble guns.
Actually I have found quite a handful of chinese songs that are very suitable for march in. the reason why I selected chinese songs is becos hubby n I love to go n sing KTV. But he is a better singer than me. Some of my frens asked him to go n participate in jue dui superstars… so funnie.
I dun think hubby has the courage to sing infront of 200+ ppl. hahaha.. dun want to me make things difficult for him. At first, I though of playing on the piano for him to sing. But I oso no courage to play infront of so many ppl cos it’s been more than 10 yrs since I last perform on a stage! I dun think I have time to practice either.
Actually Alex To has another less popular song called tian chang di jiu, which is very romantic. The first time I heard it, the lyrics really can melt ur heart.
Chloe,
hm, not so sure but it’s indeed nice to have a bubble effect around you. Kinda dreamy fairy-tale like. maybe you two can try it out in a rehersal in case.
ooh, that’s nice. Both of you are so musically inclined.
wah, Alex To seemed to have a lot of nice love songs. I like his songs in the past, even bought a cd but haven’t listen to him anymore for a long time. Will try to find it to listen. thanks for sharing!
ya lor, Alex To used to sing so many nice love ballads that all the gals go gaga over him. heex2.. I rem dragging my then bf to sentosa to see his concert!
hmm.. ya.. perhaps will test the bubbles out during the rehearsal n see how.
